Catholic Relief Services- Action Alert:
Right now, 49 million people in 46 countries face extreme, life-threatening conditions of hunger and malnutrition.
- In the Horn of Africa, nearly 18 million people need urgent assistance after four consecutive failed rainy seasons have killed livestock and ruined harvests.
- Across the Sahel region, conflict-driven food insecurity could cause an estimated and unprecedented 30 million people to need aid this year.
- In South Sudan, floods have ruined farmland, destroyed livelihoods and contaminated water sources, leaving almost 70% of the population in need of assistance.
Our work to end hunger is especially critical now as so many of our sisters and brothers struggle to access food to survive. Take action today to meet the immediate needs of this global emergency and to ensure this type of crisis doesn’t happen again.
Urge Congress to reauthorize existing international programs in the 2023 Farm Bill that address immediate hunger needs and support long-term solutions, including:
- McGovern-Dole Food for Education, which provides free, nutritious school lunches for millions of children who might not otherwise have a daily meal.
- Food for Peace, which has provided emergency and developmental support to more than 4 billion people around the world since 1954.
- Farmer-to-Farmer, which enables U.S. volunteers to help train and support farmers in other countries so they can adapt to climate change and improve their harvests.
Every person has the right to sufficient, nutritious food to lead a healthy and dignified life. Act now to help comm

Justice for Immigrants Action Alert:
SUPPORT OUR NEW AFGHAN NEIGHBORS: AFGHAN ADJUSTMENT ACT VIRTUAL ADVOCACY DAYS, SEPTEMBER 6-8
The Evacuate Our Allies Coalition is organizing virtual congressional advocacy days, from Tuesday, September 6, to Thursday, September 8, to urge Congress to pass the Afghan Adjustment Act, which has been endorsed by the USCCB and would provide a much-needed pathway to full integration for recently arrived Afghans. To participate, please RSVP here by Sunday, August 28.
Virtual legislative visits will be scheduled between 12:00 p.m. ET and 5:00 p.m. ET on September 6 and between 9:00 a.m. ET and 5:00 p.m. on September 7 and 8. If you are unable to join virtual meetings anywhere in those time blocks, please ensure you note this in the RSVP form.
As part of this effort, participants will receive:
- Training on virtual legislative meetings: date TBD (the week of August 29)
- Schedule of meetings with senators or their staff: September 6-8
- Sample talking points and asks for meetings
- Evacuate Our Allies Coalition support: each meeting will include an accompanier (experienced legislative advocate) to provide support
- Advocacy and social media toolkit
